Last year one of my friends got engaged. Now this is a very special friend to me because at this point in my life she’s actually one of my longest running friends, even though I don’t get to see her as much as I’d like. I met her in Hawaii when I moved right after high school. When she told me she was engaged and that she wanted me to shoot her wedding there was no way that wasn’t going to happen! And a couple of weeks ago I hopped on a plane for her Kona backyard wedding.
At first, Liz played it off like this was not going to be a big deal… that the only thing they cared about was getting married that day so it wasn’t going to be extra fancy. And yes, all Mike + Liz cared about that day was getting married [you’ll see what I mean in a minute], but when I got there and saw the homemade details for the day, how her friends and family pulled together to make every last detail matter. Oh and when I saw her silver dress and hair adorned with rosemary and sage and the aisle lined with white plumeriaplumeria… I just had to call her bluff! This wedding was such a big deal! And so fun to shoot!
At the rehearsal the night before the weather forecast was 90% chance of rain. And though the rain held off for the first portion of the day, rain it did. Hard. But look at those smiles! Rebekah and I where shooting underneath umbrellas and at one point Mike almost looks like he’s standing under a showerhead but there were only smiles.
This will go down in my book as one of the most memorable wedding days. Now take a gander at the newly married Dinmores!
